Eukaryotes vs Prokaryotes

There are 2 “groups” of cells that you need to know about. Eukaryotes and Prokaryotes.

Examples of eukaryotes are animal and plant cells. You will need to know what they look like and be able to compare them to a typical prokaryote, a bacteria cell.

Eukaryotes have a few key differences to prokaryotes

  • They have membrane bound organelles e.g. mitochondria, chloroplasts
  • They have DNA enclosed in a nucleus
  • They are bigger than a typical prokaryotes
