What is Cell Organisation?

Living organisms are made up of cells, but not all cells are the same. Cells are organised into tissues, organs, and organ systems, allowing the body to function efficiently.

Levels of Organisation

There are four levels of organisation in living organisms:

  1. Cells – The basic unit of life.
  2. Tissues – Groups of similar cells working together to carry out a specific function.
  3. Organs – Structures made of different tissues that work together for a particular function.
  4. Organ Systems – Groups of organs working together to perform vital body processes.

Questions

  1. What is the basic unit of life?
  2. What is a tissue?
  3. Name two organ systems in the human body.
  4. Give an example of a specialised cell in plants.
  5. What is the function of xylem tissue?

Summary

  • Cells form tissues, which form organs, which work together in organ systems.
  • Specialised cells allow organisms to function efficiently.
  • Both animals and plants have cell organisation with similar structural levels.
